Red warning for coastal Andhra as cyclone Asani changes route

VISAKHAPATNAM/BHUBANESWAR/KOLKATA: A red alert has been sounded in Guntur, Krishna, Visakhapatnam and West and East Godavari districts of Andhra Pradesh as severe cyclonic storm Asani changed route on Tuesday to move southwards from north coastal AP and Odisha coast. Andhra district administrations kept rescue and relief teams on standby, and cautioned people living in low-lying areas as Asani is likely to bring in copious rain to central AP coast.
On Tuesday, flights were cancelled from Visakhapatnam airport. Asani is likely to reach close to the coast on Wednesday, and weaken into a cyclone from severe cyclone. By Thursday, it is likely to turn into a depression. It;s not clear where it’ll make a landfall, but moderate to heavy rains accompanied by gales are likely to hit parts of Visakhapatnam, Anakapalle Konaseema, Kakinada and East Godavari districts.
